The paper discusses the surviving testimonies on the authors and genres studied in the Hellenistic age. The canonical texts had already been established in the fifth and fourth century BC in Athens; although Hellenistic scholars mostly continued studying these works, there is some documentation attesting their interest in minor authors, in non-canonical genres, and also in the work of contemporary poets.
