In this paper I give evidence for the fact that for Kant thinking is linguistic by nature. Hence the importance he gives to the sense of hearing and to the problem raised by deafness. I also discuss the deep reasons behind Kant’s thesis that words are not symbols and bear no resemblance to the things they are attached to.
