Recent excavations carried out at the necropolis of Villa Doria Pamphili, Rome, brought to light a large stele, which belonged to C. Licinius Romulus. He was a sailor of the of the fleet of Ravenna. He was part of the crew of the trireme Hercule and died at the age of 40 after 21 years of service. He was buried in this necropolis by his heir. This stele differs from other similar 2 cent. AD. artifacts, found in the same necropolis and which also belonged to sailors from Ravenna. The main peculiarity of this stele lies in the detailed representation of the classiarius, with hasta navalis on the right and codex ansatus on the left.
