The essay deals with the theme of giving testimony in Hegel’s philosophy of religion, with particular reference to the treatment of worship in the Berlin course of philosophy of religion in 1824. In a first part the theme is developed through the idea of faith as mediation, i.e., always involving an interpretation. The second part deals with the practical side of witnessing as the highest expression of worship, which, however, does not erase the ritual action
