Danni bellici, ricostruzioni e restauri a Roma: 1943-1950

The collection and processing of documentation on reconstruction in post-war Rome has clarified some aspects related to various theoretical positions and practices of intervention, the restoration repairs and reconstructions. It was found, as in other regional contexts, a composite picture, oscillating between positions and accomplishments that proposed the reconstruction of entire urban "as they were, where they were" other maintenance that led to the ruin of the remains of the destroyed buildings, and others who saw the destruction of war part of the urban fabric a stimulus towards a process of 'modernization' of the city.

La raccolta e l’elaborazione della documentazione sugli interventi di ricostruzione nel dopoguerra in Roma ha permesso di chiarire alcuni aspetti legati alle diverse posizioni teoriche e alle pratiche d’intervento, dal restauro alle riparazioni e alle ricostruzioni. Ne è emerso, come in altri contesti regionali, un quadro composito, oscillante fra posizioni e realizzazioni che proponevano la ricostruzione di interi tessuti urbani “come erano, dove erano”, altre che portavano al mantenimento a rudere dei resti degli edifici distrutti, altri ancora che vedevano nella distruzione bellica di parte del tessuto urbano uno stimolo verso un processo di ‘modernizzazione’ della città.
