Abstract
Leopardi’s reflections on the notion of ‘infinity’ closely concern not just the field of poetry and the theory of pleasure, but also the language and status of words. These thoughts are developed in a broader theory of human knowledge, in which the observations on aesthetics and stylistics are also coherently included. Leop-ardi’s gnoseological perspective places the imagination in a central position. A faculty, the Imagination, that has the task of presiding over many of the aspects in which human knowledge is declined. Through the analysis of Leopardi’s work (first of all the Zibaldone), the present paper will be trying to highlight how the semantic vagueness is strictly connected to the specific ability to conceive the ‘infinite’/‘indefinite’, and equally as the vagueness and the particular role of words. represent one of the aspects in which this peculiar human cognitive functionality is articulated.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
