"MON CHER AMI ...". LE CORBUSIER E PIER LUIGI NERVI

materials preserved in the archives of the Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris and in the Archives of MAXXI Architecture in Rome and the direct testimony of the engineer and painter of Romanian origin Richard Antohi (b.1927) and the engineer Mario Desideri (1925-2009), one of the closest Nervi’s collaborator.The starting point consists of the short trip to Rome that LC made in September 1960 with Georges present and Guillermo Jullian de la Fuente to visit the sports facilities created for the Olympic Games in Rome (just concluded); in fact, at that time he was engaged in the project of the Sport City of Baghdad.LC asked his friend Pier Luigi Nervi (Mon cher ami ...) to attend him on the visit. From that event the essay analyzes personal and business relationships between the two designers with a focus on the project for the new headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, for relations with the CIAM’s Group and on the project for the Unité d’Habitation in Meaux.

Il saggio ricostruisce i rapporti tra Le Corbusier e Pier Luigi Nervi attraverso i materiali conservati negli archivi della Fondation Le Corbusier a Parigi, negli Archivi del MAXXI Architettura a Roma e le testimonianze dirette dell’ingegnere e pittore di origine rumena Richard Antohi (n. 1927) e dell’ingegner Mario Desideri (1925-2009), uno dei più stretti collaboratori di Nervi. Lo spunto è costituito dal breve viaggio a Roma che LC fece nel settembre del 1960 in compagnia di Georges Présenté e Guillermo Jullian de La Fuente per visitare gli impianti sportivi realizzati in occasione delle Olimpiadi di Roma (appena concluse); in quel periodo era infatti impegnato nel progetto della Città sportiva di Baghdad. LC chiese al suo amico Pier Luigi Nervi (Mon cher ami…) di accompagnarlo nella visita. A partire da quell’episodio il testo analizza i rapporti personali e di lavoro tra i due progettisti con una particolare attenzione per il progetto per la nuova sede dell’UNESCO a Parigi, per i rapporti con il Gruppo CIAM e per il progetto per le Unità di abitazione a Meaux.
