The idea of "form-structure", or gestalt in German, is a concept of major importance in the theory of art and architecture, especially in the transition phase between the modern and the postmodern. The concept is a decisive transition stage towards the current idea of "diagram" as a critical device (often used contentiously), as became evident in the halcyon days of structuralism.
