There are two main phenomena that are changing the design role: the phenomenon of desktop manufacturing and the phenomenon of the open source. The result is a different approach within the design knowledge that move from a broadcasting system where design was focus on the mass production, towards a on-demand system where design is facing the goal of maximum customisation of products and, moreover, services.
