Part of the results of the research subject of the discussion were presented at the conference in Rome in the years of French rule and influence. From 1798 to 1814. Broken, continuity, innovation between the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth-century Rome, 26-27-28 May 1994. The working hypothesis was to initiate a reflection on the years of French rule and influence in Rome. The research highlights the difficult situation of public debt at the end of the eighteenth century papal reporting issues related to the sharp worsening of the deficit and the administration of the public debt service in the Roman Republic and the first papal restoration by the critical use of documentary sources unpublished

Parte dei risultati della ricerca oggetto della trattazione sono stati presentati al Convegno Roma negli anni di influenza e dominio francese. 1798-1814. Rotture, continuità, innovazioni tra fine Settecento e inizi Ottocento Roma, 26-27-28 maggio 1994. L’ipotesi di lavoro è stata quella di avviare una riflessione sugli anni di influenza e dominio francese a Roma. Il lavoro di ricerca evidenzia la pesante situazione del debito pubblico pontificio alla fine del Settecento segnalando le problematiche relative al forte aggravio del deficit e alla amministrazione del servizio del debito pubblico nella Repubblica Romana e nella prima restaurazione pontificia mediante l’uso critico di fonti documentarie inedite
