Discussion of CEG 396, a 6th cent. BCE dedication by the artist Nicomachos. A reconsideration of the dedication from a palaeographical perspective indicates that the dedicator (who is also the artist) primarily sought to draw attention to himself as the creator of the object on which the epigram appears, and that for this purpose his signature was set off from the rest of the epigram using techniques that are well documented, though rare, in the Greek epigraphic tradition.

Abstract
Discussion of CEG 396, a 6th cent. BCE dedication by the artist Nicomachos. A reconsideration of the dedication from a palaeographical perspective indicates that the dedicator (who is also the artist) primarily sought to draw attention to himself as the creator of the object on which the epigram appears, and that for this purpose his signature was set off from the rest of the epigram using techniques that are well documented, though rare, in the Greek epigraphic tradition.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
