Le idee estetiche di Stendhal

Il saggio si interroga sulle ragioni che hanno determinato l’assenza, nella Teoria del romanzo di Lukács, di ogni riferimento ai romanzi di Stendhal. Ciò può essere forse dovuto al fatto che tali romanzi, se per un verso sono riconducibili alla nozione lukácsiana di forma-romanzo, in virtù della loro oscillazione tra “idealismo astratto” e “romanticismo della disillusione”, per altro verso, si offrono a noi come autentici “non-romanzi”, essendo fondati sulla consapevolezza che il senso deve essere non cercato nel romanzo, ossia nell’arte, bensì vissuto e partecipato nella vita. This essay questions why we don’t find any reference to Stendhal’s novels in the Lukács’s Theory of the Novel. Perhaps this may be due to the fact that if, on the one hand, these novels can be attributed to the lukácsian notion of “novel form” – because of their oscillation between "abstract idealism" and "romanticism of disillusionment" –, on the other hand, they appear as genuine "non-novels", since they are aware that the sense must be not sought in the novel, i.e. in the art, but lived and participated in the life.
