This essay focuses attention on the issue of traveling women. In particular, the events surrounding the travels of two Roman noblewomen, Clarice Orsini, wife of Lorenzo il Magnifico, and Alfonsina Orsini, married Lorenzo’s son Piero de Medici, are taken into consideration. Through a significant number of epistolary documentation, saved at in the archive Mediceo Avanti il Principato, it is possible to reconstruct the dynamics of trips, the itineraries and the destinations chosen for the trips. The survey on the travel experiences of Clarice and Alfonsina Orsini aimed to investigate which choices underlie their travels, what the reasons that led to a travel journey, from the more routine ones – such as those that have been seen by paternal home to that of the new spouse – to the more 'adventurous' ones, which led them to undertake unusual paths and deviate from the established roads.
