Abstract

If nowadays issues caused by the UHI phenomenon mostly emerge in historical fabrics, it's not strange to talk, not only for the peripheral areas but above all for the historical ones, about 'mending' of the urban fabric [1], about their 'efficient use', where ‘use’ stands for the identification of its potentialities and their translation in a planning act, for an 'integrated conservation' in relationship between urban morphology and urban climate. So, starting from the porosity of the architectural organism, my research work focuses on the potential and limits of natural ventilation, analysing possible design effects relating to the specific field of investigation of the historical city. In this contest, indeed, the wind factor analysis could play an interesting role in understanding the comfort conditions of the urban space [2,3,4], focusing the attention on exploitation of the ventilative cooling potential as a factor of climate improvement, working in an almost static balance between the invariance of a fabric to be protected and the possible design freedoms.
