What we can actually know about ancient childhood is nothing else than their image reflected in the adults’ eyes. That means that we can only know the specific perception that adults had of this phase of life and of those who were passing through it. These "images" of children can however tell us much about the environment that produced them, the cultural influences suffered or exercised, the persistence of ancient mentalities, or the sudden emergence of new approaches. To consider these in a historical-religious perspective gives depth and value to the analysis because the ancient societies were based on a sacred foundation and therefore they tended to sacredly manage the fundamental stages of life, both individual and collective. This essay offers some methodological reflections on the subject, on peculiarities of the sources, on the paths of investigation followed by the research group on childhood in ancient cultures.

Abstract
This essay offers some methodological reflections on the subject, on peculiarities of the sources, on the paths of investigation followed by the research group on childhood in ancient cultures.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
