Abstract
The humanist Pomponius Gauricus, a native of Gauro near Giffoni in the Citra Principality of the Kingdom of Naples, published in 1504 the latin pamphlet 'De sculptura', in which an entire chapter is devoted to perspective. The operetta is now kept in mind mainly for the broad and often notable hints on contemporary artists. However, he easily appears to us as the only, perhaps, theorist who has managed to combine latin and greek literature with artistic practice. Therefore, it is very important for us to establish the criterion of theoretical and scientific preparation that Gauricus followed to start talking about perspective in his particular study of sculpture.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
