n the recent years, internationalization has become a strategic goal for Italian universities. In this paper, the transition paths to the work of Sapienza graduates of non-Italian nationality are examined. There are 9,339 Sapienza graduates of non-Ital- ian nationality in the observed period, which equals 5% of 176,206 graduates. These are 6,110 female and 3,229 male graduates, the number of female graduates being even higher than the one of Italian graduates. Non-Italian graduates in the observed period entered into 26,967 contracts for around 4 million working days. Study choices of foreign graduates are described and compared with Italian graduates. In addition, their transition to work is examined, taking into account the types of contract, the number of contracts, working days, pro- fessional qualifications and ISCO codes. The percentage of foreign graduates who obtain subordinate employment or quasi-subordinate employment contracts is lower, as are the actual days of work and the qualifications obtained. The over- all result is a position demand that discriminates against for- eign students and that does not favor the university interna- tionalization processes.
L’internazionalizzazione è un obiettivo strategico per le università. In questo lavoro vengono esaminati i percorsi di transizione al lavoro dei laureati stranieri della Sapienza. Si tratta di 6.110 laureate e di 3.229 laureati. I laureati non italiani nel periodo osservato hanno attivato 26.967 contratti attivati per circa 4 milioni di giornate di lavoro. Vengono descritte e confrontate con i laureati italiani le scelte di studio dei laureati stranieri e viene esaminata la loro transizione al lavoro considerando i tipi di contratto, il numero di contratti, le giornate di lavoro, le qualifiche professionali, i codici ISCO. La percen tuale di laureati che ottengono contratti di lavoro subordinato o parasubordinato è inferiore, come inferiori risultano le giornate effettive di lavoro e le qualifiche ottenute. Ne risulta nel complesso una domanda di lavoro che discrimina gli studenti stranieri e che non favorisce i processi di internazionalizzazione dell’università.
