In the era of metropolisation, where most of the world's population lives in urban areas and the decline involves small isolated historic centres, infrastructures play a crucial role for regeneration strategies toward the morphological and socio-economic rebalance of the territory. On the one hand, global policies pay attention to accessibility and collective transport as an interpretative evolution of the "right to the city" (Lefebvre, 1968), particularly in disadvantaged territories. In addition, the international strategic lines recognize the connotation of historic infrastructures (historic railways, transhumance routes) as common goods capable of supporting resilience processes, tracing a morphological reconfiguration and highlighting the landscape from its dynamic perception. In this context, infrastructure networks capable of reconnecting small historic centers represent an interesting field of Italian research in the context of integrated and multi-scalar approaches. The paper develops a reflection on the opportunities offered by the relaunch of sustainable mobility for the improvement of the Italian peripheral territories, from its cultural roots to the natural and built heritage and to the socio-economic structure. The analysis deepens the Italian case studies in which the inter-municipal dimension is the emblematic reference for integrated and multi-scale approaches that are based on the centrality of mobility planning. In these cases, the regeneration strategies are activated by the network connection of the historical territory and through the relaunch of sustainable mobility, enhancing the cultural identity.
