This paper deals with some seated or standing figures depicted within a frame of birds, or flanked by one or more pairs of birds, in an area between the Mediterranean and Iranian regions in the Sasanian, Islamic and Christian milieu. The likely identification of the birds as “heavenly birds” could allow to recognize in the framed figures the facies of the achieved power.
