The text investigates the figure of Pouillon as a discussed, adventurous and contradictory character, a true master in habitat design in the late twentieth century, during which time he had a modest critical fortune, and not only in Italy. If one were to draw up the ranking of the major architects of the twentieth century, Pouillon certainly deserves a top position. Although Pouillon will build large, unconventional housing settlements in France, Algeria and Marseille, he will always remain outside the history of official architecture. Pouillon is a designer of great ambition, who loves stone, of which he knows its versatility and limits; which governs the effects of light with empathic subtlety; that cultivates the monumentality of classical building. Architect of an unrecognized talent, with declared humility he apologizes for his reckless ambition, which consists in "wanting to make men happy!"
