Diplomatici europei a Roma nel 1479: crisi della Lega italica e politica internazionale

Soon after the Pazzi conspiracy in 1478 began the war between Florence and Rome. During the spring of 1479 ambassadors from Naples, Milan, France and England met in Rome in order to reach the peace between Lorenzo de' Medici and Pope Sixtus IV. However, there wasn't a real will of signing a treaty because of the ambitions of Pope's lay relatives, with particular reference to Girolamo Riario. The letters from Rome written by the Florentine ambassador, Pier Filippo Pandolfini, allow us know the developing of the negotiations, the different aims that moved the diplomatic agents, above all those from France and England and the network that tied Italian situation to the wider stage of the international relations. Through the lens of the diplomatic Roman season, we can follow the roads of the European politics and diplomatic interests.
