Marina City, Bertrand Goldberg

Marina City is a mixed-use residential, commercial, office and leisure complex that occupies an entire block on State Street in Chicago, on the north bank of the Chicago River in the city center, opposite the Loop district. The complex consists of two 65-storey (179 m) cob-shaped towers, which at the time of construction were the tallest residential buildings and tallest reinforced concrete structures in the world. The two towers have identical plans. The first 19 floors form a spiral parking ramp, with 896 parking spaces per building, so designed to raise the apartments above the noise and dirt of the streets; the 20th floor contains a laundry room with panoramic views of the Loop, while floors 21 to 60 contain apartments, 450 for each tower. The terrace is 360 degrees above the roof on the 61st floor... The article is composed of a couple of pages. Marina City è un complesso ad uso misto residenziale, commerciale, per uffici e il tempo libero, che occupa un intero isolato su State Street a Chicago, sulla riva nord del fiume Chicago nel centro della città, di fronte al quartiere del Loop. Il complesso è costituito da due torri di 65 piani (179 m) a forma di pannocchia, che al momento della costruzione erano i più alti edifici residenziali e le più alte strutture in cemento armato in tutto il mondo. Le due torri hanno planimetrie identiche. I primi 19 piani formano una rampa a spirale per il parcheggio, con 896 posti auto per edificio, così concepito per elevare gli appartamenti sopra il rumore e la sporcizia delle strade; il ventesimo piano contiene una lavanderia con vista panoramica sul Loop, mentre i piani da 21 a 60 contengono appartamenti, 450 per ogni torre. A 360 gradi sul tetto al sessantunesimo piano si trova la terrazza... L'articolo è composto da una coppia di pagine.
