Archeologia per chi va in metro. La nuova stazione di San Giovanni a Roma

Can a metro station transform its statute from a service infrastructure to a city location? In Rome, the new San Giovanni station on line C is finally in operation, the first with an internal layout that stages the story of the historical events that have taken place over the millennia and settled in the ground. The conspicuous archaeological finds and their stratification, more than 20 meters deep, have in fact called for a change of pace in the standard design of the line that here has sought a relationship more related to the specificity of the site. In particular, the authors, professors and researchers of the Sapienza University of Rome, came to the project starting from an investigation of those conflicts and virtuous perspectives that emerge from the comparison between contemporary infrastructure and historical city, between needs for transformation, and functional improvement, and conservation and enhancement of the heritage. The book illustrates the project of setting up the station environments, from the urban level to the quays, following the thread of the stories staged and told through an extensive documentation of images and drawings. At the same time, the technical and methodological aspects addressed are framed, also with reference to the state of the art of the disciplines involved, ranging from interior architecture to museography and lighting technology.

Può una stazione della metropolitana trasformare il proprio statuto, da infrastruttura di servizio a luogo della città? A Roma è finalmente in funzione la nuova stazione di San Giovanni sulla linea C, la prima con un allestimento interno che mette in scena il racconto delle vicende storiche succedutesi nel corso dei millenni e sedimentatesi nel terreno. I cospicui ritrovamenti archeologici e la loro stratificazione, profonda più di 20 metri, hanno di fatto invocato un cambio di passo nella progettazione standard della linea che qui ha ricercato un rapporto più legato alla specificità del sito. In particolare gli autori, docenti e ricercatori della Sapienza Università di Roma, sono giunti al progetto muovendo da un'indagine di quei conflitti e prospettive virtuose che emergono dal confronto tra infrastrutture contemporanee e città storica, tra esigenze di trasformazione, e miglioramento funzionale, e conservazione e valorizzazione del patrimonio. Il libro illustra il progetto di allestimento degli ambienti di stazione, dalla quota urbana sino alle banchine, seguendo il filo delle storie messe in scena e raccontate attraverso un'ampia documentazione d'immagini e disegni. Al contempo vengono inquadrati gli aspetti tecnici e metodologici affrontati, anche in riferimento allo stato dell'arte delle discipline coinvolte che vanno dall'architettura degli interni alla museografia, fino all'illuminotecnica
