Abstract

In German, there are several constructions which are considered as passive paraphrases due to their agent-averted perspective. The most important constructions are the so-called recipient passive, empty verb constructions, impersonal constructions, reflexive constructions as well as several constructions with a modal semantics. Some passive paraphrases are typically used in formal and written contexts, other in informal and oral contexts.
