Over the last few years, Italy has been run over of several changes in most relevant social areas like economic (for example, the financial crisis since 2007), political (for example, the development of new political movements) and also demographic one (for example, the ageing population and the falling birth rate). More in detail, especially with reference to this last, our research wants to focus the attention on Italian family system that, as pointed out by the National Institute for Statistics in the last Annual Report (2018), has become increasingly unstable and fragile. For this reason, the analysis will be carried out using secondary data that refer to the number of marriages and non-married partners, the rates of both legal separations and divorces and consequential increase of the so-called "new families" because they are characterized for the presence of children from a previous marriage. Furthermore, all these indicators are going to be analyzed in longitudinal view, from 2000 to 2015 (last data available), and taking into account the national territorial division mainly if we consider the differences and/or idiosyncrasies of various kinds (i.e., cultural, economic, social) among the Northern, Central and Southern Italy.
