During this presentation I spoke about a novel written by the Italian migrant writer Barbara Serdakowski. Barbara was born in Poland in 1964 and she grew up in Morocco and Canada. She therefore has a multicultural and multilingual background that became even more complex after she moved to Italy. During an interview I conducted with the author, she expressed the feeling that she had often lived under a false identity: she was perceived as “French” in Morocco because of her European features, and again in Quebec because of her accent. Now that she's living in Italy, she is easily ascribed to an Eastern-European woman (and writer) although she never returned to Poland since she was two years old. The question of mobility, identity and otherness is often treated in her poetry:
