The peri-urban areas are currently considered as key places for the regeneration of the contemporary cities. These areas are characterized by urban and agricoltural land uses that are related with high natural, historical and cultural values. This complex heterogeneity can provide new landscape views which could be considered to think new ways to live public space. Based on available literature, different definitions and concepts of periurban have been proposed during the time highlighting its complex structure. As a consequence, environmental planning of periurban landscape is a difficult issue that needs multidisciplinary and multi-scale approches. The main aim of the present research is to point out a multidisciplinary method (overlay of various types of data, e.g. climate, geology, vegetation, urban mobility, urban tissue, landscape planning tools, urban palimpsest, ect., using a GIS approach) which can be useful to understand exhaustively landscape both from physical and perceptual points of views. A best practice concerning the periurban area of Fontana Candida (Province of Rome) is considered to verify the feasibility of the chosen method.
