Il suburbio di Roma: confini e luoghi di culto

The main purpose of the article is to provide an overview of the various places of worship attested in the suburb of Rome and the relative boundaires of this territory over time. Through an integrated approach of the main sources of information (literary, archaeological and epigraphic data) it is possible to observe the existence of a public and private sacred areas, or of unidentified cult activities, that characterize the suburban sacred landscape. The ancient literary sources describe places of worship mainly located in two sectors of this territory: the first near the Servian Walls (and within the 1h mile), the second at the reconstructed limits of the so-called ager Romanus antiquus. It is possible to associate with this corpus evidences documented through archaeological and epigraphic data. In some cases thei are reflected in the literary documentation, in others they show a complex panorama, articulated in different ways according to the chronological context of reference.
