Polycentrism, enviromental, networks, industrial heritage and Urban planning in the Alpha city // Policentrismo, reti ambientali, patrimonio industriale e pianificazione nella Città alpha

The case of the recent metropolitan transformations and urban planning in Shanghai is very important in order to understand contemporary urbanism, because of the global relevance of the city, and because of the particular complexity of urban policies, transformation processes, urban masterplans. The key-words of the current phase are: polycentrism, functional and urban reconversion, construction and enhancement of the ecological - environmental network, regeneration of the historical - testimonial heritage, sustainability of urban development, enhancement of the global urban image. The paper proposes a critical analysis of this complexity of aspects. The redevelopment and reuse of industrial heritage have an increasingly relevant role, in different ways, and highlight that the enhancement of the stratified culture of the city can play an important role in the construction of an innovative and qualifying urban identity, at the local scale, at the territorial scale and in the global dimension.
