The surrealist contents published in the magazine “Ši‘r”

The present contribution gives a complete overview of the surrealist contents promoted in the Lebanese magazine "Shi'r", which can be classified into three categories: original texts and translations of French surrealist poetry, critical studies of French surrealists and critical studies of Arabic poetry influenced by surrealist theories. As we shall see, a large diversity of voices contributed to the enrichment of these contents. Yet, the link that connects them to each other suggests that, behind these voices, a sort of planning did exist, which confirms Otared Haider’s hypothesis that considers “Ši‘r” not only as a magazine, where individual intellectuals could express their views, but also as a real cultural institution with specific objectives that transcend the single voices.
