Memory as a starting point

This paper is about the meaning of memory in architecture. Grasping totally the meaning of memory is a complicated operation, maybe because much of the matter constituting the memory belongs to the world of ideas. Through memory, the architect or the artist would satisfy a double necessity (or responsibility): on one hand, finding the correct correspondence between contents of history and ambitions of present; on the other hand, establishing – implicitly – a relation between the own indi- vidual experience and common experiences, accepted by the community and, also, shareable because they are shared. So, I want to intend the memory as an ideal presence, as the premise of the invention, as instrument and matter; but the memory is especially a place preparing to modification and qualification of the spirit and nature. Memory could be recognized like a correspondence between some places and autochthones where past and present are united in an almost metaphysics singularity: an example of this is Rione Fossi in Accadia, in the province of Foggia.
