The paper intends to illustrate the significant case of Torpignattara, historic and popular neighbourhood of the roman suburbs. Starting by the end of the eighties, a new wave of migration has involved the district in a massive way, conveying the exclusive idea of the 'ghetto' and the degradation associated with it. In the last years the anthropological mutation has inspired a lot of “participated” initiatives, aimed at enhancing the cultural and multiethnic variety of the neighbourhood, between artistic performances and conservation - redevelopment interventions.
