Spaventa e Gioberti

This article reconstructs the various phases of Bertrando Spaventa's judgment on Vincenzo Gioberti. The great and unfinished book The Philosophy of Gioberti (1863) is not in fact the only moment in a research effort that accompanied Spaventas entire intellectual life. Beginning with his early writings, the interpretation of Giobertian philosophy remained at the center of his interests, and, after 1851, was interwoven with the consideration of the relationship between Bruno and Spinoza, and with the themes of the «reform» of Hegelian dialectics. Giobertis reading becomes the fulcrum of the theory of the «circulation» of European thought, finding its highest expression in the lectures of 1860 and 1861, along with the discovery of Vico.
