This text intends to introduce some issues related to the notion of urban fringe belt applied to a geographical area located in the Pearl River Delta, in the territory where, over the last twenty years, the merger of two cities, Guangzhou1 (14 million inhabitants) and Foshan (7 million inhabitants), has given rise to a new urban organism considered the new core of the Zhujiang Delta, the Guangzhou-Foshan Metropolitan Area.
