The article analyzes the assimilation of the Shakespearean subject (via Ducis) in the ballet and dramma per musica of the late Eighteenth century through three case studies (from 1788 to 1792). The choice of the characters, their social and family relationships, the plot, are rethought on the basis of the tradition of Italian music theatre and its conventions.
