Múltiplos olhares sobre as cidades: controle social, memoria e direitos humanos

The approach of the book contemplates the different ways to look at the contemporary cities. It begins with the historical perspective of the formation of cities in the world, as a way of situating contemporary issues in a context of belonging. Showing the evolution of historical and social perspectives. The objective of constructing a historical route of the cities is related to the evolution that they have passed until reaching the present time, because many of the current problems are due to old forms of space planning and social control. Following this direction the other chapters are complementary, as they approach perspectives that answer questions of the contemporary world. The discussions observe the dichotomy between the ideal city and the real city, as well as the propositions that demonstrate the need for a project to regulate how to live in urban spaces. As well as the legal forms based on the federal constitutions that also delimit an urban policy in the Brazilian case. It also shows the importance of social movements to establish the right to a city in Brazil. Finally, the theme of security and control in the contemporary city is emphasized, as the purpose of showing the new protagonism of the cities and the crisis of regulation of the national states in the world today. The discussions are extremely current, since they contemplate from the UPPs in the city of Rio de Janeiro to the urban security policies in Rome.

Inicia com a perspectiva histórica da formação das cidades no mundo, como forma de situar as questões contemporâneas num contexto de pertencimento. Mostrando a evolução das perspectivas históricas e sociais. O objetivo de construir um percurso histórico das cidades está relacionado com a evolução que as mesmas passaram até chegar ao tempo presente, pois muitos dos problemas atuais são decorrentes de antigas formas de planejamento do espaço e do controle social. Seguindo esse direcionamento os demais capítulos são complementares, pois abordam perspectivas que atendem questões do mundo atual. As discussões observam a dicotomia entre a cidade ideal e a cidade real, bem como, as proposições que demonstram a necessidade de um projeto de regulamentação do modo de se viver nos espaços urbanos. Bem como as formas legais baseadas nas constituições federais que também delimitam uma política urbana no caso brasileiro. Mostrando igualmente a importância dos movimentos sociais para estabelecer o direito a cidade no Brasil. Para finalizar a abordagem do livro é enfatizado o tema da segurança e do controle na cidade contemporânea, como a finalidade de mostrar o novo protagonismo das cidades e a crise de regulamentação dos estados nacionais no mundo atual. As discussões são extremamente atuais, pois contemplam desde as UPPs na cidade do Rio de Janeiro até as políticas de segurança em Roma.
