This article seeks to retrace the main stages of NATO enlargement, from a historical and political viewpoint, as well as through a closer look at ongoing dynamics in the Caucasus region. The analysis will focus particularly on Georgia’s process of rapprochement to the Atlantic alliance and, subsequently, on the country’s prospect of membership and its geopolitical consequences.
