Sulle origini del radicalismo liberale di Ralf Dahrendorf. Il ruolo delle élite politiche

In these pages we intend to focus on two decisive aspects. We will examine: first of all the reasons for the radical nature of the first liberalism; then, the role of the political and cultural elites, the relationship between these and the democratic deficit of social structures in contemporary Germany. Above all, however, we will assess the role of the political elites in establishing a constitution of freedom. Our thesis is this: Dahrendorf's radical stance can be interpreted as a reaction to the remnants of traditionalism and conservatism in Germany in the mid-1950s of the last century.

In queste pagine intendiamo soffermarci su due aspetti decisivi. Esamineremo: in primo luogo le ragioni della radicalità del primo liberalismo; poi, il ruolo delle élite politiche e culturali, la relazione tra queste e il deficit di democrazia delle strutture sociali nella Germania contemporanea. Ma, soprattutto, valuteremo il ruolo delle élite politiche per l’instaurazione di una costituzione della libertà. La nostra tesi è questa: la presa di posizione radicale di Dahrendorf può essere interpretata come una reazione ai residui del tradizionalismo e del conservatorismo dominante nella metà degli anni Cinquanta del secolo scorso in Germania.
