This chapter discusses how changing access to nature impacted an adivasi people, the Hos of Singhbhum. Under colonial rule, sedentarisation of agriculture and extension of cultivation did not benefit the Hos. Instead, the restrictive forest laws and the lack of irrigation led to an agrarian crisis in the region.

Abstract
