In her text “Festivals as social dramas and metaphors: between popular and subversive”, Aleksandra Jovićević discusses two crucial notions of Victor Turner – liminality and communitas. The liminal is a moment of rupture, discontinuity within everyday time allowing temporary subversion of order and frames. Communitas – festival as a potential community carries a possible connotation of togetherness. Thus, role of festivals in contemporary society with both counterparts: professional managers on one side and audiences on the other deserve special attention not only because of “festivalisation” of culture but also for its possible contribution to the processes towards “emancipated community”. Aleksandra Jovićević concludes that festivals seen as social dramas and metaphors today can be more important for their social and political impact then because of their aesthetic and entertaining dimension. In that sense the subversive potential can be reached in special synergies between the “performers” and “audience” creating new communitas at least during festival days as liminal events.
Nel suo testo, “Festivals as social dramas and metaphors: between popular and subversive”, Aleksandra Jovićević discute i due concetti cruciali di Victor Turner: liminale e communitas. Il liminale è un momento di rottura, discontinuità nel tempo quotidiano, permettendo la sovversione temporanea di ordine. I festival sono come potenziale comunità che portano una possibile connotazione di solidarietà, cioè gli communitas. Quindi, il ruolo dei festival nella società contemporanea con entrambi componenti: i professionisti da una parte e il pubblico dall'altra merita un'attenzione particolare non solo per la “festivalizzazione” della cultura ma anche per il suo possibile contributo ai processi verso la “comunità emancipata”. Aleksandra Jovićević conclude quel festival visto come drammi sociali e metafore oggi possono essere più importanti per il loro impatto sociale e politico e non per la sua dimensione estetica e dell’intrattenimento. In questo senso il loro potenziale sovversivo può essere raggiunto nelle speciali sinergie tra gli "interpreti" e il "pubblico" che creano nuove comunità almeno durante i giorni del festival come eventi liminali.
