Aldo Moro and Enrico Berlinguer, two of the most well-known exponents of the leading parties—Christian Democracy DC and the Italian Communist Party (PCI)—that were involved in the making of Italian history during the second half of the 1900s, had very different biographical trajectories. Toward the end of the 1970s, these two figures rose to an ever-increasing importance within their parties, and contributed to the creation of a climate which historians have defined in various ways: “strategy of attention” on Moro’s part with regard to the PCI, debate politics, crisis of the convention ad excludendum, and so forth.

Abstract

Aldo Moro and Enrico Berlinguer, two of the most well-known exponents of the leading parties—Christian Democracy DC and the Italian Communist Party (PCI)—that were involved in the making of Italian history during the second half of the 1900s, had very different biographical trajectories. Toward the end of the 1970s, these two figures rose to an ever-increasing importance within their parties, and contributed to the creation of a climate which historians have defined in various ways: “strategy of attention” on Moro’s part with regard to the PCI, debate politics, crisis of the convention ad excludendum, and so forth.
