A poor freshwater molluscan assemblage of gastropods and bivalves was recorded from sandy sediments of “Cava 1”. It is constituted of two aquatic prosobranchs, Bithynia leachii (Sheppard) and Valvata piscinalis (Müller), and one small bivalve, Pisidium casertanum (Poli). Remains of gyrogonites of Characeae are also present. The ecological requirements of the recorded species and their not perfect state of preservation (fragments of shells are frequent in the sediment) are indicative of a slow-flowing freshwater environment on silty substrate, such as stream or ditch, in which the molluscs were affected by a short transport after their death.

Abstract
A poor freshwater molluscan assemblage of gastropods and bivalves was recorded from sandy sediments of “Cava 1”. It is constituted of two aquatic prosobranchs, Bithynia leachii (Sheppard) and Valvata piscinalis (Müller), and one small bivalve, Pisidium casertanum (Poli). Remains of gyrogonites of Characeae are also present. The ecological requirements of the recorded species and their not perfect state of preservation (fragments of shells are frequent in the sediment) are indicative of a slow-flowing freshwater environment on silty substrate, such as stream or ditch, in which the molluscs were affected by a short transport after their death.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
