La formazione del lessico cinese moderno fu fortemente influenzata dall'introduzione in Cina di nuovi saperi e tecnologie dall'occidente. Grazie ad un'ampia selezione di prestiti e neologismi individuati in testi di economia del XIX secolo, questo articolo esamina i processi di formazione lessicale che prevalsero. Prova inoltre a spiegare perché le scelte lessicali dei missionari protestanti in questo settore non furono durature. The formation of the modern Chinese lexicon was deeply influenced by the introduction of new sciences and technologies from the West. Based on a wide selection of loans and neologisms collected in 19th century economic sources, this article examines the processes of word-formation that prevailed in the semantic area of economics. It also attempts to explain the reasons why the Protestant missionaries did not succeed in producing durable economic terms in Chinese.
