Dispersion properties of biomolecules in size-exclusion chromatographic columns are analyzed both experimentally and theoretically. In order to explain tile linear behaviour of the dispersion coefficient with tile solute velocity, experimentally found for most of the biomolecules considered, a stochastic model of solute dispersion is proposed based on the exit-time equation.
