We study the segregation phenomena in granular media in the framework of Tetris-like models for granular compaction. The models, which focus on the geometrical properties of mixtures, exhibit segregation, i.e. separation of particles with different degrees of geometrical frustration. This effect is related to the effective average mobilities of the different particles. Mie study these effects in the context of an analytical mean-field-like model.

Abstract

We study the segregation phenomena in granular media in the framework of Tetris-like models for granular compaction. The models, which focus on the geometrical properties of mixtures, exhibit segregation, i.e. separation of particles with different degrees of geometrical frustration. This effect is related to the effective average mobilities of the different particles. Mie study these effects in the context of an analytical mean-field-like model.
