Progettazione per l'ampliamento dei cimiteri circoscrizionali di Barra, Pianura e Soccavo a Napoli

The project of enlarging the Pianura Cemetery is part of a larger cemetery redevelopment plan in the western outskirts of Naples. The project is organized as an ideal continuation of the existing 19th-century cemetery system, providing, in addition to the burial fields and an area for the funerary chapels, a closed court defined by the building for burials and an open one that faces the existing cemetery, looking onto two large L-shaped buildings. The building, constructed in the first phase of the project, is similar in shape to the one previously built in the 1990s. The layout is characterized by light, transparent fronts and exploits the two guidelines for the internal treatment of light. The façades are defined by an alternation of full and empty spaces that become actual filter elements between the inner and outer areas. This effect, in contrast to the rigid stereometry of the existing building, was achieved by means of a pattern of metal gratings stretched out with a rhomboidal mesh of different colors, useful also for providing an adequate ventilation of the interiors and an intense play of light.

Il progetto di ampliamento del cimitero di Pianura si inserisce all’interno di un piano più esteso di riqualificazione dei cimiteri della periferia ovest di Napoli. Il progetto si organizza come ideale prosecuzione dell’impianto ottocentesco del cimitero esistente, prevedendo, oltre ai campi di inumazione e a un’area destinata alle cappelle funerarie, una corte chiusa definita dall’edificio per le tumulazioni e una aperta verso il cimitero esistente su cui affacciano due grandi edifici ad L. L’edificio, realizzato nel primo stralcio di progetto, è simile per sagoma a quello già edificato negli anni ’90. L’impianto è caratterizzato da fronti leggeri e trasparenti e sfrutta i due orientamenti per il trattamento interno della luce: le facciate sono infatti definite da un’alternanza di pieni e vuoti che divengono veri e propri elementi filtro tra interno ed esterno: tale effetto, in contrasto con la rigida stereometria dell’edificio esistente, è stato ottenuto tramite un pattern di grigliati metallici stirati a maglia romboidale di differenti colorazioni, utili anche a favorire un’adeguata ventilazione degli ambienti interni e un intenso gioco di luci.
