Syringomycin E ( SRE) and syringopeptin 22A (SP22A) are the main antibiotic and phytotoxic metabolites of the bacterium Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae. Here are reported preliminary results on the production of these metabolites by several transposon mutant strains, as compared to the parent strain B301DR. The aim of the work is to gain information relevant to the biosynthesis of the toxins in their role in the development of plant disease.
