The aim of my research is to analyse the social capital as a mediating link between socio-economic inequality and health. To this purpose I would face the problem using an empirical approach, first, by briefly assessing the level and recent trend in selected social capital indicators and, second, by examining whether social capital has impacted upon health in Mexico. The Methodology The empirical analysis is performed using data from the World Value Survey (WVS). In order to investigate the impact of social capital on health it has to be decided if using either self-assessed health status (aggregated to form a group or community level measure) or, at the societal level, all-cause mortality rates. One possible empirical model could be represented by the Dummy estimation equation where health indicator is equal to one if individuals self report good health, zero otherwise, in addition, depending on some explanatory variables indicating social capital at community level and at individual level, to some environmental variables. To analyse the impact on Mexico’s population the World Value Survey (WVS) and Mexican statistics on Living conditions, Lifestyles and Health (if available) have to be taken into account.
