In order to investigate the influence of tin content on corrosion behaviour, three different bi-component bronze alloys were exposed to a natural and artificial acid rain. The study provided a comparison between samples exposed in a urban environment (Gent- Belgium) for five weeks and samples immersed in a synthetic solution of acid rain (pH 3.4). The effects on the bronze corrosion of the main acid components of precipitations, such as sulfuric acid and nitric acid, was also studied. The kinetic processes were analyzed monitoring the Open Circuit Potential (OCP) and with the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) that gives important information about layers proprieties. The patina characterization was carried out with Spectrocolorimetry, SEM-EDS and XRD.
