After a revision of the type material, Atractites claviger Bülow, 1915, a Late Triassic xiphoteuthidid coleoid from Timor, is removed from Atractites. In Atractites there is no ventral furrow, the waist is narrower, and the phragmocone does not penetrate below the waist. Because of its unique combination of characters, A. claviger is designed as type species of Claviatractites gen. nov.; the new genus is yet monotypic. Claviatractites differs from Delphinoteuthis Mariotti & Pignatti, 1993 in possessing a well-developed verntral furrow and an almost symmetrical profile.

Abstract
